Officially sanctioned as a championship sport in 1998, the structure of competitive equestrian in the United States is quite interesting. The National Collegiate Equestrian Association is the governing body that oversees all equestrian competitions. Some member institutions may choose to compete in the IHSA, and with more than 2,000 athletes competing, the opportunity to earn a scholarship is available!
Equestrian Season and More info:
With the season running from September until April, many schools compete regionally and across the country. A lot of programs are based in the south, but big programs such as Delaware State and South Dakota State also compete regularly at the D-I level. The most recent (2018) champion of the NCEA is Auburn University.
