Field Hockey Scholarships:
An overwhelmingly popular sport on the east coast of the United States and played all over the country, field hockey is an internationally recognized sport that is growing consistently and has many scholarship opportunities at the collegiate level. There are more than 6,000 athletes and team sizes range around 22 per team. Development for field hockey in the high school is quite intensive, as it's mostly popular with young women that play on multiple teams throughout the year. There are even different variations of the game, as the surface can change or rules can be modified to speed up the match.
Field Hockey Season and More Info:
The field hockey season at the collegiate level in the United States in terms of actual competitive play is quite short, but development and training takes place consistently year-round. The first matches begin around the last week of August and the end of the season culminates with the championship match being held in November. The most successful team at the D-I level is Old Dominion with 9 titles. The most recent champion is Connecticut.
