Rowing is the oldest intercollegiate sport in the United States. With almost 3,000 universities sponsoring the sport at the collegiate level, there are plenty of opportunities for a scholarship to be earned. Unfortunately, only women's rowing is sponsored by the NCAA, whereas men is restricted to club rowing.

The rowing season is quite long at the intercollegiate level in the United States. The beginning of a length and challenging campaign begin in September and ends in June. The most successful D-I women's program is Brown University and the most recent winner is the University of California at Berkeley. (2018)
